Making Mother's Day

Tips for making Mother's Day the best ever while sheltering in place.

Mother's Day is one of my most favorite times of the year. Not only is it a time to celebrate my mother, grandmothers and all of the other wonderful women in my life, but it's also a time to celebrate me. It's the one time of the year that I take a moment to appreciate every thing that I am as a woman and mother. Usually, this is my time to step away, relax and reset. However, we are currently living in unusual times and are transitioning into the new normal. Typically, I plan a day (or two) away. I may spend that time in wine country exploring new places, or doing some retail therapy in boutique downtown shops. Hitting up my favorite restaurants and "sheltering in place" at a local hotel is usually on the agenda as well. Twenty-twenty has, of course, thrown a monkey wrench in the form of a virus into my usual itinerary. So, this means that I have to get creative. But as mother's, we are accustomed to that.

Spa Day At Home Now it is not out of the ordinary for us to care for our nails and feet ourselves, in between the occasional trips to the salon. This weekend, take it up a notch and restore your body from head to toe.

For Your Hair: TPH by TARAJI- this newly released hair care line by actress Taraji P. Henson, is aimed at amplifying the natural beauty of all types of hair. Check out the review on Allure.com.

For Your Skin: The La Mer skincare line has been a hot topic amongst almost every beauty magazine in the country. Known for it proprietary (and secret) Miracle Broth, it promises to soothe and restore even the driest of skin types. It's a bit on the pricey side at $90 and up, but well worth it for a deserving Mom on her special day. Available at such retailers as Saksfifthavenue.com.

For Your Nails: Until you can get back to the nail shop, take care of those cuticles with the Deborah Lippmann Cuticle Remover and Exfoliating Cuticle Treatment. Available at Sephora.com.

For Your Feet: Restore your feet to it's natural softness with Baby Foot Exfoliating Foot Peel. It may take a few days to see the full effect, but it will be well worth the wait!

Hotel En Casa:

Turn your bedroom into your own private hotel stay. This is a great time to do some updating to really transform your space into something magical. Nothing major, of course. Change up the colors of the decor, or add a few new pictures to the wall. Just a new bedspread and some fancy pillows can really energize the room.

Now once it's done, light a candle and finish that book you started months ago; or binge watch that show you've been meaning to get into. Download your favorite playlist and dance the day away.

Do you have loved ones in the house? Great! Request a "room service" meal for one! Otherwise, use your favorite eat-in app to order up just the right cuisine.

Send Yourself Some Flowers:

Yes, you! Popular chains such as FTD and 1-800-Flowers are always a great option when needing arrangements for a special occasion. But if your local florists are offering curbside service, take advantage of these boutique shops and order up a really unique arrangement made especially for you. I'll take this moment to give a shout out to our favorite local shop, Bloem Decor in Sacramento, CA.

Go Wine Tasting :

Many of your favorite wineries are bringing wine country to you with virtual tasting experiences. There are quite a few that you can tune into each week via Facebook or Instagram; and others that will create private experiences just for you. Here are a few of our favorites to sip with:

Alpha Omega

Anaba Wines

Far Niente Family Wineries & Vineyards

Gary Farrell Winery

HALL Wines

Hamel Family Wines

Jackson Family Wines

K. Laz Wine Collection

Ken Wright Cellars

Long Meadow Ranch

Virtual Tastings with Wine.com

Wente Vineyards

And there are many more.

The moral of the story is that this day (weekend) is all about celebrating the incredible women who conquer the world just a little bit every day with their love and nurturing spirit. However, don't forget about the mom who looks at you in the mirror every day. You.
